This guy was a little more than 100 yards away according to my GPS, down wind on a windy day and he still heard my shutter. What amazing senses on these guys!!
On March 6th, 2013, I took this picture of a Sandhill Crane chick and my original comment was: "My first photo of a Sandhill Crane chick. It just seemed so small and fragile." Now check out the next photo.
She had looked so small and fragile then (previous photo taken on 3/6/13) and still is to a large degree, but as of 5/11/13, it seems she now has a good chance of surviving.
I was out in the woods with the hope of getting a good picture of one of this year's new fawns, but instead, I captured a photo of this young buck eyeing a couple does from across the way. If he has his way, we'll be seeing more fawns this time next year.
I hike and paddle around gators almost every weekend. But there's something different about them down in the Everglades. They just seem to be everywhere and they seem to be larger, which leads me to believe that they might be a bit more cunning. I definitely felt the need to keep my wits about me down in the Glades. This guy was in a gator hole, back in the Fakahatchee.
A new bird for me - Red-bellied sapsucker on a blooming bromeliad down in the Fakahatchee Strand. If you plan on traveling down there this time of year, travel in a truck. The road is a killer on struts, trust me.
Glades deer at dawn.
